Population Genetics evo-edu.org

Population genetics simulations and support materials for allele frequency change, drift, selection, mutation, and migration.

Application

Allele Tracker

Compare drift, selection, mutation, and migration in one responsive public workbench while preserving the older PopG route as a legacy archive.

First challenge Run one drift-only case twice with the same settings and compare whether fixation or loss happens the same way both times.
Key habit Keep population thinking in view: follow frequency change in populations rather than imagining one organism driving the story.
Legacy memorialized The older PopG runtime remains available as an archive route while this public workbench replaces the iframe workflow.

Run Actions

Controls you will use first

Keep actions separate from settings: start a run, continue the current run, save the current graph, or export and import the current setup.

Current Run Status

Total generations {{ totalGensSoFar }}
Fixed populations {{ numFixed }}
Lost populations {{ numLost }}
Continue step {{ continueGens }}

All finite populations are fixed or lost. Start a new run to explore a different setting.

Try This First

Step 1 Use the default settings and run one drift-only simulation.
Step 2 Repeat the same run without changing anything.
Step 3 Ask what changed, what stayed similar, and what that suggests about chance in populations.

Main Display

Allele-frequency change across generations

`Pop 0` is the reference population without drift. The remaining populations show drift plus any other forces you have turned on.

What to notice Fixation or loss can happen at different times in repeated runs even with the same settings.
Compare mechanisms Change one force at a time when you want interpretable comparisons.

Messages

{{ msg }}
Run a simulation to begin. The first useful comparison is two drift-only runs with the same settings.

Configuration Parameters

Change one force at a time

The control group is separate from the configuration group on purpose. Adjust settings here, then use the run buttons without hunting through the parameter form again.

Fairness and provenance

Based on PopG This workbench replaces the old iframe workflow, not the history behind it. The older PopG route remains available as an archive, and the public provenance note carries forward the original PopG lineage, restrictions, and current evo-edu additions.
